Is this program for you?

This program is for anyone living with diabetes or pre-diabetes, as well as caregivers or other people who support those living with diabetes or pre-diabetes. Participants will learn what diabetes (and pre-diabetes) is, what happens in the body, what and how to eat for diabetes management and how to build a meal plan to easily manage diabetes. Participants will receive handouts and sample recipes that supplement the class for easy reference.

Your program includes

1. Interactive Group Sessions

Sessions will be conducted via Zoom and recorded. Group session recordings will be posted within 24 hours and available to program participants.

Session 1

  • How diabetes/pre-diabetes happens
  • What to do when diagnosed
  • Signs & symptoms and how to manage them
  • What foods have the biggest impact on diabetes and pre-diabetes
  • Foundation for understanding diabetes/pre-diabetes and what management looks like

Session 2

  • What foods have carbohydrates
  • How each food affects diabetes control
  • Food label reading
  • Use the fundamentals from the first week to apply to learning about specific foods

Session 3

  • In depth label reading 
  • Building a balanced plate for diabetes
  • Meal planning
  • Making a balanced snack

2. Community and Connection

Connect with other participants in a private community chat space. This space is moderated by the Instructor during the course of the program, and also available to participants after the program is completed.

3. Handouts and Guides

Recipe handouts and meal planning and preparation guides.

INSTRUCTOR

Jessica Dorner, RD

Jessica Dorner is a Registered Dietitian with a Masters of Science from Eastern Michigan University. She has been an RD since 2018 and in 2019 created her own business, Jessica Dorner Nutrition LLC. Jessica specializes in corporate wellness and group nutrition education, seminars, lunch & learns, cooking demo's and more for businesses and groups of all sizes. Jessica’s interests are both public speaking and in diabetes management and education, and her mission is to reach as many people as possible in her time as a Dietitian.

I feel best practice is to educate while offering empathy and support for anyone living with a medical condition. Nutrition is one tool in the toolbox for people who need support for managing disease. As a Registered Dietitian, I give support through education and engagement, with a understanding and non-judgment approach to teaching.
